Former State Minister Isi Henry Leonard is calling on Southern Region Members of Parliament to protect their "integrity".

The second term Samarai Murua MP made this call after Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey claimed it was a typing error in remitting monetary funding for Gulf Province tied to the Papua LNG to Enga Province.

"I am calling upon leaders of Southern Region to move out [from government] and demand for fair and good leadership," Mr Leonard said.

"We must now be mindful of the office we all hold.

"What was given to Enga was captured in the 2024 Budget, which is for people of Gulf Province, full stop."

He further said the executive government had broken the law to divert the K20 million belonging to the people of Gulf Province captured in this year's national budget passed in Parliament.

Mr Leonard is one of the State Ministers who switched to the Opposition in the last sitting of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta said taking the executive government to court regarding the diversion of funds for his province "is not politically motivated".

Today in Port Moresby he presented a letter to Prime Minister and Pangu Party Parliamentary Leader James Marape, on his decision to "remain with the party but not a member of the parliamentary caucus.
