Goilala District in Central Province is one of 180 roads captured under the governments multi-billion-kina Connect PNG project.

The program is the government's development approach to support the expansion and connectivity of the Economic Corridor Development [ECD] concept under PNG's 2010 – 2030 Strategic Plan.

Goilala is one of the Districts yet to receive its share of the project.

The Member for Goilala Casmiro Aia says it’s the Government’s prerogative to give resources where they think fits.

“It is a sad state of affairs to say that our road is under connect PNG but we are yet to be given our share of the connect. We cannot wait, we need to start somewhere and connect PNG program can come later.

I may never get it until my term of parliament finishes and I might be kicked out by my people for not doing anything”, said Aia.

Goilala people seeking employment will be given priority under the Goilala DDA business arm.

The business arm was established to create employment opportunities for the people. Once employed under the business arm, the employees will work on the road in the districts.

Aia said, “we are mindful and realize that our people cannot be accepted in any workforce anywhere so we are trying to see how best we can accommodate our people. Our people who know how to operate earth moving machines can be employed under the business arm so they can build the roads themselves.”
