Businesses will save cost on waste disposal

The introduction of the first world class Hazardous Waste Landfill is being built by a PNG owned company, Total Waste Management Group.
Speaking at a launch recently in Roku village, Central Province, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso says the Hazardous Waste Landfill will address many of the challenges faced by businesses in exporting their hazardous wastes overseas for proper disposal.
Businesses will save cost on waste disposal as a result of the world class facility.
Mr Rosso said, “regulatory compliance, navigating complex regulations regarding waste disposal can be challenging and we should be working at addressing this and simplifying it.”
The TWM facility ensures compliance with local and international waste management laws and also will enable a lot of businesses not to look at exporting a lot of their hazardous waste management system.
He explained that, cost management and proper disposal can be expensive but PNG is now in a position to manage waste for the region and the pacific.
He says, “the new facility office is an example of a cost effective solution for businesses reducing the financial burdens instead of exporting. I’m quite confident a lot of PNG based businesses now will be using this facility.”
Every year, Government spends millions of kina on rubbish collection.
John Rosso who is also he member for Lae says in Lae city alone, K10million is spent annually for rubbish collection.
He highlighted that people's attitudes and bad habits in normalising littering are the major contributing factors towards unclean and unhealthy environments in major cities and towns across the country.
