Roadblock in Simbu causes inconvenience for travelling passengers

Several sections of the Highlands Highway in the Simbu Province have been blocked off by disgruntled people over the nonpayment of disaster funds.
There are four sections; Mingende Kaglma, Mingende Kombuglomongo, Guo Wandi and Gon Kond junction where the roadblocks have been put up.
The people are demanding the Simbu Provincial Government for some explanations on the national government funding of K14 million to each of the six districts during the disaster earlier this year.
Last week, people at Dumun also set up roadblocks over the same concerns.
This is affecting the flow of traffic since this morning. Passengers bound for Lae and Madang are stranded in Kundiawa.
NBC News asked the affected passengers if they have been told when the highway will be cleared off.
“We’re still in Kundiawa, not sure when the road will be cleared to travel,” Richard a passenger said.
In Gembogl, people living near Kangri Bridge also closed off the road.

The barricades will affect the travelling public and businesses.
