Prime Minister, James Marape arrived at the Tokua Airport a little after midday today to join his Deputy, John Rosso and other cabinet members, who arrived on an earlier flight this morning.

The Prime Minister and his cabinet members will be in the province to attend a National Executive Council meeting that will be held at the Gazelle International Hotel later this afternoon.

Prior to the NEC meeting, the Prime Minister and the Works and Highway Minister Solan Mirisim will officiate at the launching of the much anticipated 17-kilometer Tokua to Kokopo four lane highway.

After the launching, the cabinet members will convene at the Gazelle International Hotel for the closed-door NEC Meeting.

The key discussions and agenda items for the meeting haven’t been disclosed publicly, but it is understood the meeting will only last for only a few hours.

The cabinet ministers will depart tomorrow morning.

This is the first time for the National Executive Council to stage a meeting outside of Port Moresby, and the first time for East New Britain to host ministers of the cabinet.

The visit is seen as a crucial opportunity for dialogue and collaboration between the national government and the East New Britain provincial government.
