Administrative Services Minister Richard Masere gave assurance that the allowances for census enumerators and other service providers will be sorted out.

He said Department of Finance had already released K153 million, and the monies will be made available to all provinces.

"The concern we have now is National Capital District [NCD] because data collectors are already out collecting data, so I have instructed the National Statistician to release the money.

"Only NCD will be paid from the National Statistics Office but for the rest of the country we'll dispatch the funds to the provincial finance office and then the finance officers with the provincial census coordinator [will] sort out the enumerators,"Mr Masere said.

He further said for the last 10 days, “crisis meetings” had been held to address challenges experienced during the national census, and one is on teachers nationwide.

"We met with the secretary and the deputy secretary for the Department of Education, a circular will be released to state [give directive] that teachers participating in the census will remain and others [teachers not involved as counting officials] will continue with the classes.” Mr Masere said.

Term three of the public school year starts in the coming week.
