PNG and New Zealand PM’s hold one hour bilateral meeting

With Papua New Guinea becoming more prone to natural disasters, asking for more technical assistance in this area is an agenda James Marape ensured he had to bring to the table when meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Luxon Christopher today.

Both Prime Ministers discussed many issues which affects trade relations between the two countries in the Pacific Region.

Other areas of interest discussed included increasing agriculture investments between the two nations and increasing the quota for the labor mobility program under the seasonal workers scheme in New Zealand.


"We will continue to work in more collaboration in important areas to strengthen our bilateral going forward, " The NZ Prime Minister Luxon Christopher said.

This is the first time for New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to visit PNG since his election in November 2023.

Prime Minister Luxon's one hour visit to PNG today is part of his Pacific tour to meet and greet leaders of Pacific Island Nations.

PNG's Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko, Agriculture Minister John Boito, and Minister for trade and investment Richard Maru accompanied Mr Marape at the bilateral meeting.
