Flash flooding and a landslip destroys food gardens and properties in Nuku district villages

More than 5 hundred people in two villages of Mai and Koki in Ward 11, Nuku District are in dire need of relief assistance.
A landslide in the area in May destroyed their food gardens, houses, water wells, and other properties.

The Sepik-Trans Highway was also damaged, affecting the movement of Nuku and Lumi people into Vanimo town.
West Sepiks’ provincial social planning office in Vanimo has written a report to the National Disaster Office asking for relief assistance for these affected people.
They say the continuous rainfall in the area was a cause of the landslide and flash flooding,
West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou has pledged the provincial government's support towards the affected people but did not indicate what type of support would be given.
