The movement of trucks and Public Motor Vehicles [PMVs] along Enga province and parts of Tambul Nebilyer and Southern Highlands came to a complete stop after a massive crack on Yu bridge on Tuesday [yesterday].

The bridge is located in Tapulga village in Tambul Nebilyer district along the main Highland's Highway.

This bridge connects the entire Enga province including New Porgera Gold Mine, part of Upper Nebilyer, Upper and Lower Kagul constituency in Tambul Nebilyer and also connects the Southern Highlands.

Locals on the ground told NBC news this morning that private vehicles are accessing Mendi-Tambul backroad at the moment to reach town while PMVs stopped on either side of the bridge to unload passengers.

The locals further said the cracks started becoming visible some months back but was ignored until the huge damage on Tuesday.

Ward Councilor of Tapulga community has taken the lead with the help of his community to ensure the safety and the free movement of the general public is observed.

The locals are now calling on authorities to restore the collapsed structure under the massive crack to allow normal flow of traffic. They are worried a delay might affect their food gardens.
