K260 million Sir Mara Haus in Western Highlands show cracks

The K260 million Western Highlands Provincial Government building is unsafe to its occupants.
The Sir Mara Haus (house) which houses the Western Highlands Provincial Administration and rented apartments has cracks and leakage to its walls and ceilings caused by earthquakes.
Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa said Sir Mara Haus needs urgent inspection and called on the National Government to look into this as the building is still under its jurisdiction.
Mr Rapa stressed that the building has been experiencing cracks in its walls and ceiling and when it rains, water leaks from those cracks making it unsafe for the offices and residents to work and reside in.
He added that the building is still a new building having been built in 2012 and completed in 2016 with a total value of K260 million and the cracks from earthquakes show that the building was not built to standard.
Governor Rapa said the provincial administration will vacate their office, while waiting for maintenance.
