When Parliament reconvenes at 2 pm, the sitting arrangement will be different following the exodus of members of government to the opposition over the weekend.

The second term, Finschhafen MP Rainbo Paita, the former Finance Minister and Leader of Government Business who wants a change in the office of the prime minister will be sitting opposite the government benches.

Mr Paita’s name will be written down as the alternate prime minister when the opposition files a fresh motion of no-confidence notice to the office of parliament speaker today, starting the process of a no-confidence vote to be taken against Prime Minister James Marape, in a week's time.

But for the alternate government which has set up base in a hotel in Waigani, the first hurdle will be to get the stamp of approval from the Parliament Private Business Committee, under parliament standing orders, sits every Wednesday, and the decision by the office of the speaker on Thursday.

The government side of the house will be beaming with confidence when en route to parliament from an island resort in Central Province, where all coalition partners in the Marape – Rosso Government are together.

As in PNG national politics, the sitting arrangement in parliament will confirm the updated numbers of both sides of the house, as the much talked about motion of no-confidence in the office of the prime minister is on the card.
