National and Supreme Courts gain another 3 Judges

Papua New Guinean Laura Wawun-Kuvi was one of three judges who were today sworn in at Government House by Governor General Sir Bob Dadae.

The other two judges are expatriates Karen Carmody and Stephen Patrick Coates.

Justice Wawun-Kuvin will serve for a duration of 10 years while Justices Carmody and Patrick Coates will serve three years each.

The appointment of Justice Wawun-Kuvi and Justice Karen Carmody brings to a total 8 female among 35 male colleague judges serving in the national and supreme courts of Papua New Guinea.

E'ava Geita, a senior lawyer with the Department of Justice and Attorney General was also sworn in as the acting Solicitor General.

The Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Pila Niningi alongside Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika and Chief Magistrate Mark Pupaka witnessed the swearing in of the three judges.

The country now has a total 43 judges, this includes those acting and who will be sworn into office soon.
