The Continuous power outages in Daru, Western Province has affected business houses and the operations at the Daru General Hospital.

NBC News visited the accident and emergency section of the hospital this morning and found sick people queuing up outside the waiting area to be served.

The power supply had gone off around 6am and only a lone female nursing officer was seen attending to other patients in the emergency ward that had very poor lighting.

Most of the sick who are asthmatic queued up to get their dose on the nebulizer while one who was on the nebuliser struggled to use the manual oxygen kit.

The lone nurse told NBC News; the manual oxygen kit is used when there is no power supply to the hospital adding she had no idea what went wrong with the hospitals' backup generator.

Patients also complained about the poor services provided at the hospital saying a lot of lives have been lost due to lack of equipment at the hospital.

Attempts to get in touch with the Acting hospital manageress was unsuccessful.
