PMGH recorded 9 deaths following last Wednesdays civil unrest in Port Moresby

Port Moresby General Hospital [PMGH] emergency ward resembled a war like scene as increased number of casualties were attended too following lawlessness in the nation’s capital last Wednesday.
From January 10 -11, in the space of 24 hours, a total sixty individuals presented at the PMGH emergency department seeking medical attention, three were females.
From the hospital records the 9 deaths were all males.
Three were pronounced dead on arrival, four succumbed soon after arrival at the hospital emergency ward, and one individual passed away post- operational.
The hospital records show of the 51 individuals who sustained injuries during the looting and burning of businesses, thirty sustained gunshot injuries, six had bush knife wounds, 10 from bottle or glass cuts and five from burns.
With the waves of casualties being brought in, Director Medical Services, Dr Kone Sobi mobilized medical officers, nursing officers and support staff from the different sections of the hospital to attend to the emergencies.
