Government declares 14-day State of Emergency for National Capital District

The National Executive Council has announced a 14-day State of Emergency (SOE) effective today for the National Capital District.

Prime Minister James Marape announced this a while ago alongside his government ministers at Manasupe House following an urgent NEC and National Security Advisory Committee meeting today.

Deputy Police Commissioner Special Operations Donald Yamasombi has been appointed as the SOE Controller to effect administrative and criminal investigations into what had happened on Wednesday.

Several major announcements were also made which included the suspension of heads of key government agencies.

This includes the secretaries for Finance-Samuel Penias, Treasury- Andrew Oaeke, Personnel Management- Taies Sansan and Police Commissioner David Manning.

ACP Yamasombi will act as Police Commissioner during the SOE period for the next two weeks.
