Business in Madang partially closed

Several business houses in Madang town including government offices and the banks are closed today in fear of being attacked by opportunists.

Amongst the shops that were reluctant to open doors for business today were Andersons Foodland, Hardware Haus, City Pharmacy, Chemica, plus shops located within the Madang commercial center.

Police and security guards in Madang town were on high alert this morning following rumors of a possible rampage of shops in town.

Police, however, were a step ahead and advised business houses to operate normally and the general public to remain calm and continue their normal daily activities.

Provincial Police Commander, acting Superintendent Robert Baim on Wednesday sent out a strong warning to the general public in Madang, especially the would-be opportunists to refrain from involving themselves in any unlawful activities as police will not tolerate their actions.
