Daulo Pass Summit landslip affects flow of traffic

Traffic along the Highlands Highway was stopped after a landslide blocked the highway at three different sections of the Daulo Pass Summit in Eastern Highlands Province.
The landslip happened Sunday night between 7pm and 8pm after heavy rainfall.
Vehicles were stranded on both sides until Monday morning until locals created a narrow passage enough for vehicles to pass through.
Heavy earth moving equipment were moved in later on Monday to clear away the debris.
Yamiufa Community leader, Henry Gomae, said the continuous heavy rain eroded whatever was in in its way downhill leaving trees, plants and rocks on the road.
He said fortunately there were no family houses and gardens nearby as there would have been a huge loss of lives along the path of the debris.
Eastern Highlands police confirmed the landslide and are continuing to monitor the area while warding off locals who have been charging fees on vehicles passing by in areas they have cleared,
