POMGEN welcomes 25 new year babies

Gino Wahe, a first time mum, was delighted to give birth on the first day of 2024 at the country’s largest referral hospital.

The 19-year-old is one of 25 mothers who gave birth at the Port Moresby General Hospital between 12midnight and 12 noon on the 1st of January.

Wahe from Gulf Province but calls Port Moresby home was very happy to have her baby boy born on New Years Day and thanked doctors and nurses for the safe delivery of her first child.

The hospital recorded more female births than male.

Sixteen females and 9 males kept the health workers at POMGEN labor and post-natal wards busy on the first day of the new year.

A statement from the hospital said that majority of the mothers had normal deliveries except one mother who underwent caesarean while another was assisted with the vacuum and delivered the heaviest baby who weighed 4.5 kg.
