Prime Minister James Marape is on his way to Dubai ahead of France unveiling what the PNG government has described as "an unprecedented financial package" for Papua New Guinea's environmental initiatives.

The financial package focuses on nature, forests and climate change.

French President Emmanuel Macron will disclose details of the package at a side event of the COP28 climate summit, which is being held in Dubai, over the weekend.

In a statement, Mr Marape called on developed nations to follow France's commitment to implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement, especially in conserving forests.

Expressing gratitude for France's unwavering support, Mr Marape described President Macron as a standout leader in championing the cause of forest nations like Papua New Guinea.

He is expected to return to Papua New Guinea on Monday.
