Milne Bay PEC assists schools to complete academic year amid El Nino

‎The Milne Bay Provincial Government has come to the aid of schools in Milne Bay province affected by the onset of the El Nino'.

‎They've allocated K1.2mil this week to assist schools to complete the 2026 academic year, particularly boarding schools and students preparing to sit for the upcoming National Examinations.
‎

‎The Milne Bay Provincial Executive Council (PEC) met on Thursday evening to discuss assistance for schools affected by the El Nino' conditions following a policy submission from the Provincial Division of Education.
‎
‎Milne Bay Deputy Governor, Mathew Magioudi, told NBC News yesterday that a submission was presented to the Provincial Government for assistance, especially with the National Examinations coming up for the grades 10s and 12s.
‎
‎"The cabinet saw that it's very important for schools to complete their 2026 academic year, mainly the grades 10s and 12s in boarding schools. The cabinet in it's wisdom endorsed a total of K1.2mil for the rescue of all the schools affected by the El Nino". Magiodu said.
‎
‎He said because of the urgency and difficulties associated with normal procurement processes, affected schools and boarding institutions have been asked to submit their quotations and requirements for assistance.
‎
‎
‎Magiodi said the payment will be made to suppliers based on the submitted requirements to allow schools to access the assistance.
