Over two-hundred-thousand illicit website blocked


The National Information and Communication Technology Authority, NICTA, and the Office of Censorship are working around the clock to block illicit online content in Papua New Guinea, with more than 200,000 sites now on the national block list.

Speaking to NBC News, NICTA Chief Executive Officer, Lume Polume said the regulator continues to receive reports of unsuitable websites from the Office of Censorship. Once received, the lists are forwarded to all internet service providers, including Starlink, to be blocked from their networks.

Polume said the process is ongoing. Major sites have been shut down, but new ones continue to appear due to high demand.
