Personnel Management Department says it followed due process in the appointment of Debra Sungi

Secretary, Taies Sansan has clarified that due process was followed in the appointment of the Acting Managing Director for Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), Debra Sungi in light of recent social media outbursts.

Ms Sansan said as required by the CCDA Act, an appointments committee deliberated on the candidates before it, for the managing director position.

The appointments committee is made up of DPM Secretary as Chair, Conservation Environment & Protection Authority (CEPA) Managing Director as Deputy Chair, and members include the Secretaries of the Departments of Petroleum and Energy and Provincial & Local-Level Government Affairs, the State Solicitor and President or Chairman of the PNG Chamber of Commerce.

Secretary Sansan said the assessment was based on the resumes and on criteria relating to; educational qualifications, relevant work experience, good governance, good administration capabilities, performance assessment and other requirements.

She said all requirements were met including a quorum of the appointments committee who shortlisted three names and sent the resolutions and recommendations to the NEC for their decision in making an appointment.

“We [the Committee] resolved and sent the names of the three candidates in order of our preference to NEC.

"Due process was followed in the appointment of the acting MD", Ms Sansan said.
