Work is underway to retain the country's regional seats in Parliament.
Under existing laws, the 20 seats are set to expire in 2012.
Provincial and Local Government Affairs Secretary, Manasupe Zurenuoc,
says the Government intends to keep the seats, and the matter will go
before Parliament soon, for deliberation. "As we seek, the appropriate recommendations are being prepared to go
back to Parliament, to seek Parliament's endorsement to retain the
regional seats on a parallel basis," said Mr. Zurenuoc.
Mr. Zurenuoc says, whether or not those holding Regional Seats will
remain in the provinces, or represent in Parliament, is yet to be
established.
He was speaking on the NBC National Radio's Government Talkback
program last night. |
