Somare to meet US President later this year

Foreign Affairs,Trade and Immigration Minister,Sam Abal said he is satisfied with the outcome of three overseas engagements he had attended in the past two weeks.

Mr Abal briefed the media on his meetings in the United States of America,China and Indonesia, upon his arrival yesterday afternoon.

He was particularly pleased with the outcome of the meeting in Washington, where he met with US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton on discussions for a possible meeting with US president, Barrack Obama and various other issues.

"I discussed that plus one or two other issues which I carried on with the technical officials later, which includes the possible participation in the UN peace keeping forces.

"The Secretary of State mentioned to me that she would make a note of that request for our prime minister to meet President Barak Obama later in the year," Minister Abal said.

Mr Abal was in Washington to commemorate 50 years of the Antarctic Treaty which PNG is a signatory to.
