Thur Jan 01, 2009 12:00pm
The Government will swear in a seven member committee, in the new
year to screen names for women in Parliament.
Minister for Community Development Dame Kidu said the committee would
ensure the names of the three women, were brought to Parliament for
voting in January 19.
Dame Carol said the committee would sign a rigid code of conduct to
declare all conflicts of interest, especially if any one of the women
nominees are of relation to members of the panel.
"The actual expression of interest deadline has been moved to the
19th January so there is still time to put your paper work together to
put in your expression of interest." Dame Carol said.
"I am personally hoping that hundreds and hundreds will come because
that will be a clear statement that women in PNG want to be heard and
I believe that women do want to be heard."
The panel comprises nominees from the National Council of Women who
will chair the meeting, PNG Council of Churches, the Evangelical
Alliance of Churches, Public Service Commission, the PNG Employees
Federation, Trade Union Congress and the Academic Staff Association of
UPNG. |
