Calls against corruption by Public Servants

Corruption watchdog,Transparency International PNG has called on
Members of Parliament, not to tolerate continued gross breeches of
procedures by senior public servants.
TI said such acts cost the state excessive amounts of public funds
that could be well spent on delivering much needed goods and services
to the people.
The anti-corruption organization said institutions such as the public
service exist to protect and act in the interest of the people, but it
seemed some of the organizations had developed an autonomous way of
operating without due consideration for procedures.
TI made the call following media reports of three finance officers
testifying before the Finance Commission of Inquiry, of being
pressured by senior officers to forego procedures and process cheques,
totaling over K7 milllion.
TI said leaders must take firm and decisive action on the findings by
the Inquiry, as it revealed the public service had collapsed. |
