The China Ready initiative, led by Port Moresby City Governor Powes Parkop and the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority [PNGTPA] since July last year, aims to position Amazing Port Moresby as a premier destination for Chinese tourists.

The exclusive event on China Ready Workshop this week offered stakeholders the opportunity to convene and discuss crucial matters shaping the future of tourism in Port Moresby.

Governor Parkop emphasized that China Ready Workshop represents a pivotal milestone in his endeavor to ready Port Moresby for the burgeoning China tourism market.

He said this initiative underscores NCDC's commitment to nurturing economic prosperity and forging enduring partnerships for the benefit of the people.

The governor said PNG boasts numerous tourist attractions, including diverse tribes, music, and traditions, making it a compelling destination compared to other Pacific Island nations, Australia, and New Zealand and this drive is another area PNG will tap into.

“We have the potential to attract tourists from all corners, but it hinges on everyone in Port Moresby and the country. Preparedness is key; if we demonstrate readiness and preparation, tourists will come,” Mr Parkop said.

Eric Mossman Uvovo, CEO of PNGTPA, stated that this initiative is at the crucial juncture in their collaborative efforts to tap into the vast potential of the Chinese tourism market.

"Through informative sessions and interactive discussions, stakeholders will gain valuable insights into preparing and promoting Port Moresby as a top destination," Mr. Uvovo said.

The China Ready Workshop will delve into key topics such as market updates, post-COVID-19 traveler insights, and effective strategies for attracting Chinese tourists and businesses to Port Moresby.
